Interior detailing: specify the problem

Ask for a checklist covering vacuuming, mats, carpets, seats, interior glass and high-touch surfaces. Extraction or steam work may be separate from a basic clean. Tell the pro about seat materials and existing damage, and ask how long damp upholstery needs to dry.

Remove valuables and child seats before work unless you agree otherwise. The owner should reinstall child seats according to the seat maker's instructions.

Exterior detailing: cleaning versus correction

A wash removes loose dirt. Decontamination addresses material bonded to the surface. Polishing is a separate process to improve certain paint defects. Ask which steps your package includes and which protective product is applied afterward.

Show the detailer damaged clear coat, repainting or existing film before they quote. Cleaning cannot repair chipped paint or failing clear coat.

Headlight restoration

Ask whether the cloudiness is on the outside of the lens and whether the quoted process includes a protective finish. Internal moisture, cracked housings or electrical faults need a repair assessment rather than a cosmetic detail.

Odor and stain treatment

Describe the source instead of requesting only a fragrance. A wet carpet, smoke residue and a food spill may require different work. Ask what is included, what cannot be promised, and whether inspection is needed first. Persistent water entry should be repaired before repeated cleaning.
